Wine Barrel and Stave Decor

I recently started working with reclaimed wine barrels. I really like the way the wood staves look. They have great curvature, and gives one the ability to create some unique pieces. I started with creating wine stave candle holders, and soon hope to be branching into other pieces of decor. My ultimate goal is to create furniture, but I due to time, I think this may be down the road a bit.

The wine stave candle holders, and votive holders are created from taking apart the wine barrel. Some of these barrels that contained red wine, have a great burgundy patina ingrained into the inside of the stave. It really makes the wood stand out. Once the barrel is apart, I take the staves, and sand them down. I then drill flat bottom holes into the wood to hold the votives, tea lights, or wine bottle tops into place. Once this is done, I finish sand them, then stain.

These wine stave pieces look great over a fireplace mantel. They are also a great unique gift for any wine lover
